Hare House

Members of Hare House can be recognized by their heavy woolen robes, green with a white fur trim, with a pair of distinctive decorative “ears” attached to the hood calling to mind their namesake animal. Before the Merchant-Industrialists ousted them, they served as woodsmen and groundskeepers in the park-estates of the royalty of Catage, dedicating their lives to maintaining these city-locked ecosystems in verdant splendor. Now they congregate in royalist-sympathetic parts of the wilds, selling their skills as hunters, trackers, and guides.

If asked, they would say they aim to convey a humbleness through their costume. It is right of them to embody a prey animal, especially the favored prey of the King’s Dogs, for it would be hubristic to imagine ones self a greater creature. To hunt a creature higher than a rabbit, therefore, requires great ceremony and supplication. They also freely admit that any wealth they accumulate and any power they come to wield will be put to the ends of restoring the nobility, should opportunity arise.

This is all approximately true. Hare House does believe in lowering themselves to the role of prey animal, because it both gives them a perspective necessary for stewardship of the hunted and it makes the hunting of a greater beast all the more impressive. Think upon the stag: it is commonly held that a hunted stag can be judged by the size of its antlers. Thus, if Hare House takes its role as stewards of the hunt seriously, what greater prey could be kept for the hunt than the king with the finest crown? And so, they will work to attend to and uplift the nobility, so that they will be healthy and majestic when the hunt does come.

Axes and missile weapons are unrestricted by Hare House.
The spiritual enemy of Hare House is Humans.

A notable Hare House enclave will sell the service of its huntsmen as guides and scouts. A common practice is for their guides to follow an unguided group and try to heroically appear to help in a moment of need, in order to get a better deal.

A significant Hare House enclave will organize a hunt on your behalf. Name a creature and where it lives, pay 100c (needed immediately)+50 per the creature’s level+10 per day spent hunting. They will return promptly with the creature as intact as possible, or prepared as you wish for additional fees. Costs double for speaking target.

An exceptional Hare House enclave will bring an exiled noble into a seat of local power, and ensure that you are given a good introduction. Such a patron could prove invaluable.
