0906 - A Windmill
A small cottage and a working windmill sit atop one of the grassy hills.
Malcolm Glaston (level 3 assassin) maintains it, giving it fresh coats
of paint and ensuring the machinery within stays in good working order.
If asked, he is disarmingly open about how he came to own it:
“It was already here, and it wanted a new occupant. Fixed itself up,
really. I just help it with small things and make sure it’s fed.”
He is telling the truth. On close inspection there are few nails to be
found in the structure, as it is mostly one solid piece of living wood
that has grown to mimic the work of human hands. The moving wooden parts
of the machinery are separate, but once grew from the walls. The cellar
below the mill has walls, ceiling, and floor that are all a solid sheet
of wood, forming a tunnel into pitch darkness.
The settlement at 0807 regularly sends grain here to be milled. They pay
Malcolm in fresh paint, live animals, or fresh bodies of executed
prisoners. They find it distasteful, but all things considered it is a
cheaper and safer deal than they got from the industrialists of
Catage.
